Affectionately referred to as “Little Egypt”, Carbondale is a growing city found in Jackson County, IL. Approximately 26,000 people call the community home, many of whom attended Southern Illinois University, which is found here. Carbondale is located on the edge of the Shawnee National Forest about 100 miles southeast of St. Louis, and its history as a community dates back to 1853.

Carbondale is found in the northernmost portion of a humid subtropical climate zone. While weather conditions may consist of four seasons, winters are milder here than other parts of the country. The city only receives a foot of snowfall each season, although overnight low temperatures often fall below freezing.
